This role will work collaboratively alongside these directors to lead within a team-based structure.
Position Summary:
The Minister at Calvary United Church provides spiritual leadership to our community with a focus on preaching and teaching, pastoral care, discipleship, and collaborative team leadership. This role is shaped not only by responsibilities but by calling, gifting, and alignment with the heart and culture of Calvary.
We are a Holy Spirit-led, Jesus-centered church that is committed to seeking God's presence, developing mature followers of Christ, and discipling all generations. This position plays a central role in cultivating those values through ministry leadership and congregational support.
Autonomy in Decision-Making:
Calvary embraces a team-based approach to ministry. The Minister will help support and guide ministry staff and lay leaders in shared visioning, planning, and discernment. Church-wide strategies are shaped collaboratively to get input from different giftings/callings but form a unified vision. Space is given for each team member to dream, lead, and initiate within their area of gifting and responsibility within the unified vision. While collaboration is key, staff are also entrusted with the independence to manage their day-to-day ministry work.
Principal Areas of Responsibility and Associated Duties

Administration
Manage and respond to ministry-related communication (email, calls, planning)
Contribute to planning meetings, strategy sessions, and coordination with other
staff and ministry teams
Participate in and contribute to weekly staff meetings
Participate in monthly church board meetings
Continuing Education
Engage in ongoing spiritual, vocational, and leadership development in consultation with the M&P Committee
Community Outreach and Social Justice
Help cultivate a culture where people live as faithful followers of Jesus in every area of life
Support advancing Calvary’s mission beyond its walls
Engage with local ministerial and area initiatives when possible
Denomination and Communities
Attend and/or support participation in regional United Church council gatherings as needed, as well as local ministerial events (e.g., St. Jacobs Ministerial)
Faith Formation and Christian Education
Provide preaching and teaching that centres on Jesus and helps people grow in relationship with Him
Encourage rhythms of discipleship through group and mentoring environments
Equip and support others to disciple, mentor, and walk with others in their
spiritual journey
Leadership This role requires a leader who:
Is deeply grounded in their relationship with Jesus and led by the Holy Spirit
Embodies and upholds Calvary's core culture and values
Works collaboratively with ministry staff, lay leadership, and volunteers
Helps discern, equip, and release others in their God-given gifts and ministry
callings
Values the biblical call to equip and empower people in their unique, Spirit-given giftings and callings (Eph. 4:11), fostering maturity and unity within the body of Christ.
Believes Scripture is both true and transformative for today’s world
Models and fosters a culture of honour, empowerment, and mission
Pastoral Care
Provide direct pastoral care including crisis support, prayer, visits, and life-event services (weddings, funerals, etc.)
Support and equip lay leaders and pastoral care teams
Ensure people within and beyond the Calvary community are treated with
compassion and spiritual integrity
Self-care
Establish healthy rhythms of rest, recreation, soul care, and spiritual renewal in consultation with the M&P Committee
Prioritize personal spiritual, physical, and emotional health
Worship
Work with staff and volunteers to plan Sunday services and worship times that foster authentic encounters with God
Administer sacraments (baptism and communion)
Provide regular preaching and help guide worship gatherings that are rooted in
Scripture, encourage practical pursuit of Jesus, and create space to listen and respond to the Holy Spirit
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education:
Member of Ordered Ministry (Ordained or Diaconal) or Designated Lay Minister
Experience:
Would be considered an asset to have multi years of ministry leadership experience in a team ministry setting
Skills and Abilities:
Spiritually mature follower of Jesus
Sensitive to God's presence and voice
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Provides in-person support and community engagement
Carries emotional maturity and spiritual discernment; able to lead and care for
others with empathy, wisdom, and a calm presence
Relates across all ages and backgrounds
Gifted in teaching, pastoring, and team leadership
Experience with team ministry and collaborative decision-making
Experience in inner healing ministries, counselling, or pastoral care training is an
asset
Comfortable with digital tools (email, Google Drive, Zoom, etc.)
Access to transportation for a rural ministry setting
