Preparations for the Arrival of Greg and Angie

3 min read

A new season is just around the corner at Calvary! Greg Brawn will begin his ministry with us the week of October 20, and we are excited to welcome both Greg and his wife Angie into the Calvary family.

The Transition Team has been intentional about creating a plan that allows Greg to learn, listen, observe and build relationships before stepping fully into his role. We want him to get to know Calvary and our community.

A season of grace and patience

A transition takes time - for Greg, for our staff team and for us as a congregation.

Our staff will be learning how to work together as a new team, finding new rhythms and discovering how each person’s gifts and strengths fit together. As a congregation, we’ll also be getting to know Greg and adjusting to a new leadership style.

There may be moments when things feel different from what we’re used to. That’s okay! It may feel easy to compare everything to how it was done before or to expect everything to settle into place immediately. This is a season for grace, patience, and relationship. We’re learning and growing together.

What to expect on those first few Sundays

The first few Sundays are intentionally designed to create space for relationships before Greg steps into regular preaching.

October 25 - Welcome, Blessing & Q&A - We’ll welcome Greg, pray over him as he begins, and have an opportunity to get to know him through some Q&A. We’ll be putting questions together in advance and will ask for your input!

November 1 - Communion & Sharing - As part of the service, Greg will be leading in communion and we hope to hear some sharing from Angie.

November 8 - First Sermon - Greg will preach his first full message at Calvary.

How can you be part of the welcome?

Here's a few ways you can take part in welcoming Greg & Angie.

Add to the Welcome Package - You’ll find recommendation lists in the foyer - favourite coffee shops, restaurants, breakfast spots, places to explore and more. Help Greg and Angie get to know their new community!

Wear a Name Tag - Heads up - we’re bringing out some name tags/labels for those first few weeks. This will be helpful for Greg and Angie - but probably also for all of us too!

Join us for the Church Potluck (Nov 1) - Bring something to share and stay for some good food and time together.

Watch for Family Home Gatherings (Nov & Dec) - We’ll have a few opportunities to gather in smaller groups in people’s homes over food, coffee or dessert. No formal agenda - just a chance to connect and get to know Greg and Angie. Stay tuned for more on that.

Moving Help (Nov 20 & 27) - Greg will arrive and begin his role the week of October 20. For the first month, Angie will continue wrapping up her work in London and will be joining him in Waterloo on weekends. Their final move will take place at the end of November and helping hands will be appreciated! (3-4 volunteers for Friday Nov 20, 1pm/ 3-4 on Friday Nov 27, 1pm) Talk to Angie Tuffnail for details.

Be Prayerful - Pray for this transition: for Greg & Angie, for the staff, for each of us. Pray for God’s favour, peace and presence as we head into this next chapter.

And in addition to all this, Greg will likely be lined up to visit your small group, upcoming event or team soon! We know it will take some time but we are sure there will be lots of opportunities to connect with Greg over the next few months and beyond!

If you have any ideas or suggestions - you are welcome to contact Rhonda who is helping with Greg’s onboarding and scheduling during this initial time.

A new minister transition isn’t just about a new person standing at the front on a Sunday. It’s about building new relationships, finding new rhythms and stepping into a new season together.

So let’s give Greg and Angie room to settle in, give our staff team time to find its rhythm, and give ourselves grace to adjust.

We look forward to seeing all that God has in store for our Calvary community!
