December 7, 2020 Advent Reflection

Luke 1:46-55

Mary said:

With all my heart I praise the Lord, and I am glad because of God my Saviour. He Cares for me his humble servant. From now on, all people will say God has blessed me. God All-Powerful has done great things for me, and his name is holy. He always shows mercy to everyone who worships Him. The Lord has used His powerful arm to scatter those who are proud. He drags strong rulers from their thrones and puts humble people in places of power. God gives the hungry good things to eat and sends the rich away with nothing. He helps his servant Israel and is always merciful to his people. The Lord made this promise to our ancestors, Abraham and his family forever!

Wow! Powerful words! Have you ever felt like you can't do it? Like the road in front of you is just too steep a mountain?

Now imagine for a minute you are Mary... in previous chapters, we read about how she was visited by an angel with news that lowly, humble, unwed Mary will carry our KING! I am not sure I would have felt I could possibly be worthy to carry a king, let alone help him grow into what God needed him to be. Imagine even having to face people in her time as an unwed, pregnant mother. That takes faith, that takes a tremendous amount of leaning on God. That takes faith so big, you can see past your own abilities and realize God is in control.

Here we are in chapters ahead of that, hearing Mary sing praises! Seeing her raise Him as He uses her - a humble servant. This prayer for me radiates hope. Let's look at some of the words in Mary's prayer. He puts humble people in places of power. He cares for us and wants to use us - US His humble servants! He is waiting with mercy to pour over us, to use us as his hands, to feed the poor. He made a promise to every generation of Abrahams's family. A promise of help and mercy. We- You and I, are the generations of people - we are the ones blessed with that promise!

Let's pray;

Our precious Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your promises of helping us and pouring mercy over us. Let us sing Your praises for all You do through us and for us. As your humble servant, we praise Your mighty works. Thank you for caring so deeply for us!

In Jesus Precious Name, Amen!

While I was writing, the song "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High" was singing in my head. I encourage you to play this song and allow it to fill your soul while praising Him! Now, take your full soul and be ready! God is on the move and you are going to be blessed with His Help and Mercy!
